Where I muse about just about everything...
From the weather in Texas, to my kids, pets, travel and friendships. Basically, about life. And oh yeah, about my Coquette Bath & Home™ products, too.
Ok, it is hot out there. Really hot, like 'you probably could fry an egg on the sidewalk hot, but if not, the hood of my black Jeep probably would work'...
don't try it, but you get the idea! I hate heat. I know, I know...many people do. But I just don't. If you live in the southland (anything in the old Confederate states region for sure) summer is just a time to endure. The only reasonable time to be outside is during the early morning or late afternoon/evening. The morning really is best, though you can't exactly get out the lawnmower or edger for fear of waking the neighbors. During the evening...we have mosquitos to contend with that could have West Nile Virus.
Fun, huh? But there are compensations. I know I've posted this photo before, but it is early outside, and I can't get a new one for you. But this photo is of a tree right outside my office window. Gloriously in bloom, it is one good thing about summer!
The crepe myrtle tree outside my window. Bright watermelon pink blooms always makes me smile. Probably 20' tall now. And I planted it as a little sprig in the center of the yard. One night, going to the neighbors' house, I stepped on it in the darkness and split it in half.
Dismayed, I put the remains into the front flower bed, thinking 'oh well, I killed it'.
Obviously not. It blooms incredibly during the dry time of year. Right now, I can see about 20 clumps of bright pink. The sun is rising and the color is deepening and it is just a lovely sight.
We also, here at home, have a couple of new pets. My daughter has a puppy, a corgi/sheltie mix named Dakota. And we've adopted a new kitty too. His name is Louie and he is a rascal.
Unfortunately, it appears my only photo of Sir Louie is on my camera...so I can't post right now. I'm a bit tech challenged, it seems. That's okay. I know what I know and I do that, as well as possible. But right now, that kitty is just having a blast jumping around the office. I have a box full of packing peanuts that will move slightly when he dashes into it. Considering, in his expectations, anything box like is solid and does not move, he is intrigued.
Well, it is hot. So stay cool. Take a bath. Might I recommend some nice soap? LOL...
Forgive me, those of you who remember the incredible talent of Gilda Radner...for taking part of her famous grouse....but it IS always something.
Like right now, I have about 4 big 'house' jobs to do. I need to put down new baseboard...from work done about 3 years ago. Yep. Still haven't done it all. Most of it? Nope. Can't even say that. About 1/3? Probably pretty accurate. So that's one BIG job that needs work. I have the baseboard. I bought it all about 3 months ago, painted it and it is waiting for me...so is that going to be the job for the weekend?
Well, there's also the metal deck table & chairs. I notice rust on a few of them...so that means a new coat of paint. Keep them black? Or maybe spray them a different color? Decisions, decisions...
Then, there's the deck itself...we had a dog before who just did a number on the wood...and the wood on two rails also needs to be replaced. But the deck floor needs a good coating of solid stain and THAT has to be done after the furniture is repainted...cause with a sloping back yard, the only place I can paint the furniture is on the deck, itself.
I have a bit of trim to put down...at the thresholds of where the laminate moves to the tile.
And, that's just for the house. I also have an entire new line of lipbalm to batch, label and get ready for photos. Same great recipe that you've already come to love but in a new packaging that I hope will become a unisex favorite. Because, let's be honest here, I do love to use flower motifs, and not every dude is down with that.
On top of that new kitty, Louie, needs to go for some shots. And in a little bit I'm going to take him to the rescue folks where we got him for those. Not a bad trip, but since I'll have him with me, I won't be able to go into the cool stores around the pet store where the rescue folk set up. That's okay. I really do not need to buy more nailpolish.
Because, after a full year of wearing a gel french manicure, I scraped it all off last night and painted my nails. First attempt was a vivid turquoise with glitter. Ummm, not so much. A bit too 'teen' for me, I think. At least on my hands. Think my toes may be that color VERY soon. So this morning, I did them again...yep. The neutral base with the pink glitter? Gloriously pretty. But you can be the judge of that! (you can also clearly tell that I'm somewhat of a novice at this by the glitter on the cuticle...LOL...but a lot cheaper than $35 per time at the salon!). So I'm digging it at present.
So, like I said at the beginning, it is always something. One thing or another...but that's good I guess. Keeps us motivated and trying something new. I'll start one of the projects I've mentioned (probably the furniture) this weekend. Next weekend, I'll go to see my mom near Houston. So won't get to anything else soon. But I will.
